Dirk Chen
Dirk, a Chinese national and holds a bachelor’s degree in Hotel Management from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He has also attained WSET Level 3 and Advanced Sommelier Certificate from the Court of Master Sommelier (Candidate of Master Sommelier in 2024). Dirk started his career with Peninsula Clubs and Consultancy Services as Management Trainee in 2015 and his last position was Assistant Sommelier – Felix in Peninsula Hong Kong. In 2018, Dirk joined Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong and have assumed the roles of Sommelier – Pierre and Sommelier – Mandarin Grill & Bar. Subsequently, he was promoted to Head Sommelier – The Aubrey in January 2021.
Dirk returned to China and joined China World Summit Wing, Beijing as Hotel Sommelier end of 2021. After one year, Dirk decided to re-join the MO family, and join The Landmark Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong, in November 2022 as a Director of Wine, overseeing the wine operation of Amber and in charge of the wine purchase and inventory control of the Hotel. Dirk has also been one of the four exclusive International judges of Japan Wine Competition in 2023 and 2024.

The China Wine Competition boasts of having the most highly qualified and trained panel of wine buyers and wine experts who are based in mainland China.
As the mission and philosophy of the China Wine Competition is to award wines by quality, value and package for the China market, all our judges are from mainland China who understands the Chinese palate.
The goal, quite simply, is to gain cross-industry recognition for wines that Chinese consumers actually want to drink.
