Where On-Trade Expertise Meets Commercial Insight to Shape Asia’s Most Relevant Wine Awards
In 2025, the China Wine Competition took a bold step: it moved its annual judging to Hong Kong, bringing together experienced sommeliers, hotel beverage directors, and on-trade buyers from China, Hong Kong, and across Asia. The result? A breakout year that redefined the competition’s reach and influence — and set the stage for what comes next.
Today, we are proud to announce the opening of entries for the 5th Annual China Wine Competition, inviting producers from around the world to submit their wines for a judged-by-trade, for-trade evaluation — the only competition of its kind focused purely on on-trade performance and commercial viability.

Inside the Room Where Wines Are Chosen
At the heart of CWC’s credibility lies its rigorous and transparent judging process. Wines enter the competition under complete anonymity — pouring blind, assessed purely on their merit. Judges evaluate across multiple axes: food-pairing potential, typicity, overall quality, value for money, and packaging appeal. Finally, packaging is judged not as an afterthought, but as a central criterion — because in a restaurant or wine bar context, label, presentation, closure and shelf-list suitability can make or break a sale.
This approach ensures results reflect real-world on-trade buying logic — not just tasting notes on a spreadsheet. Producers receive a full breakdown of scores and feedback, offering insights that can help refine a wine’s positioning, packaging or value strategy before it even hits the market.

2025 China Wine Competition Judges
Judge Lineup: Real Trade Professionals — Not Critics
The 2025 judging panel featured some of Asia’s most respected sommeliers, wine directors and on-premise buyers — professionals who live and breathe restaurant wine lists, hotel wine programmes, and consumer demand in dynamic markets. Their decisions aren’t academic: they're grounded in daily experience selecting wines that will hit menus, sell by the glass, and fulfil guest expectations.
By entrusting wines to a working on-trade community, the China Wine Competition delivers results that matter: not just medals, but commercial relevance.

2026: Building on Momentum, Amplifying Value
Following the success of 2025, CWC 2026 comes with a suite of enhancements designed to deliver even greater value to entrants:
- Expanded marketing and trade visibility: Winners will benefit from enhanced post-competition media exposure targeting importers, distributors and HORECA buyers across Mainland China and Hong Kong.
- Better alignment to distribution and retail readiness: Packaging, price position and presentation are more strongly weighted to mirror real-world on-trade expectations.
- Constructive feedback loop for producers: Detailed scorecards and constructive commentary provide actionable insights for improving wines ahead of market entry.
- Stronger opportunity for market traction: A medal from CWC is no longer just a trophy, but a testimonial that speaks directly to those making buying and listing decisions in Asia’s most dynamic wine markets.

A Word from the Founder (you can insert a real quote from Sid Patel or another leader here)
“After the overwhelming interest and real-world on-trade results we saw from 2025, we knew we had to raise the bar for 2026 — not just in judging, but in the value we offer to producers and buyers alike. China Wine Competition isn’t about medals. It’s about giving wines a genuine shot at the Asian on-trade market.”

More Than a Medal — A Market Opportunity
Over the past decade, wine competitions have evolved beyond tastings and ratings. For producers aiming to succeed in Mainland China, Hong Kong and the broader Asia-Pacific on-trade sector, the right competition can be a springboard to distribution deals, restaurant listings, and long-term brand growth. The China Wine Competition stands out by marrying professional on-trade judgement with commercial market intelligence — offering a competitive advantage that’s tangible, not aspirational.
As 2026 entries open, we invite winemakers, entrepreneurs and wine merchants to join us — submit your wines, and let the trade decide.
